THE CRIME OF REVENGE PORN AND ITS SOCIAL IMPLICATIONS FOR THE VIOLATION OF WOMEN’S DIGNITY

Abstract

The present article discusses the crime of revenge pornography and its social implications for the violation of women’s dignity. The discussion on this topic is highly relevant, considering it deals with a growing social phenomenon in which most victims are women. By analyzing the social impacts of this crime, a better understanding of the occurrences of revenge pornography is promoted. The aim of the article is to understand the implications that the crime of revenge pornography entails for society. This study adopted a qualitative methodology, of a bibliographic type, using the deductive and explanatory method. Information was collected from the Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (BDTD) and SciELO, using the keywords: “revenge pornography” and “social implications”. The exposure of women results in severe social implications, including stigma, emotional harm, and impact on personal and professional relationships. Additionally, internet service providers face challenges both in protecting the victims’ privacy and in removing the content.
