This article aims to critically analyze the different interpretations of patriarchal oppression, with an emphasis on the Marxist theoretical perspective, highlighting the importance of historical knowledge for the construction of a genuinely emancipatory feminist thought. To this end, the study adopts the inductive method, based on the analysis of data and evidence drawn from specialized literature and historical records, in order to identify patterns and contrasts related to the origin and consolidation of the sexual division of labor, as well as to the historical adaptations of the discourse on this subject. The results indicate that patriarchy does not stem from biological determinism but rather constitutes a historical construction oriented toward the maintenance of male domination, with adaptability to social change. It is concluded that, beyond understanding the issue, recognition of this historical process is fundamental to the formulation of actions and policies aimed at promoting gender equity and building a democratic and egalitarian society.
Keywords: patriarchy; feminist emancipation; Marxist theory; sexual division of labor; social history.
